With our solutions, you can transport, rotate and install your nacelles with absolute control and safety.
One of the most important parts of the wind turbine needs the best lifting and handling tools. Crosby Airpes puts them at your disposal.
What is a Nacelle in a Wind Turbine?
The nacelle is the powerhouse of any wind turbine: a weatherproof housing mounted atop the tower that contains the gearbox, generator, and control systems converting wind energy into electricity. Think of it as the engine room, but instead of sitting in a stable factory floor, it’s perched 80-100 meters in the air, exposed to extreme weather conditions.

Here’s what makes nacelle handling so critical:
A modern onshore wind turbine nacelle weighs between 50 to 160 metric tons, equivalent to 30-90 cars stacked together. That’s not just heavy; it’s awkwardly shaped, precision-engineered, and worth millions. One wrong move during transport or installation can mean catastrophic damage, project delays, and safety hazards.
We’ve seen the industry evolve. Twenty years ago, nacelles were smaller, simpler. Today’s units are massive, complex assemblies requiring specialized lifting equipment that simply didn’t exist a decade ago.
Our Nacelle Wind Turbine solutions
We don’t adapt generic equipment. We engineer solutions specifically for nacelle challenges.
Nacelle Lifting Beams (59-160t): Each lifting beam is developed based on client specifications, designed to handle specific nacelle models and installation requirements.
Installation Tools: Beyond lifting beams, we provide installation tools designed for nacelle handling operations. These solutions address the specific challenges of wind turbine assembly.
Tailor-Made Solutions: Our nacelle equipment varies in design, complexity, and capacity. We develop custom solutions based on:
- Specific turbine manufacturer and model
- Project requirements and site conditions
- Installation method and crane specifications
- Client technical specifications
Quality & Certifications: Crosby Airpes is certified to ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 standards. We are members of APQP 4 Wind since 2013.
All equipment is designed and manufactured following industry standards for lifting equipment in wind energy applications.
To remember: onshore wind energy refers to the generation of electricity using wind turbines located on land, as opposed to offshore wind turbines which are installed in bodies of water like oceans or lakes.
