Load cells are high precision sensors (a strain gauge system) used in almost every existing weighing system. Load cells have many applications and their main use is to capture and measure data involving bending, pressure, temperature, tension, torque etc and inform the user or machinery operator about the machine’s effort, strength or weight in different conditions. For safety reasons but also for accuracy measuring, service calibration or process automatization it’s very important to have load cells in your weighing and lifting systems. Also they help on technical fatigue machinery testing and test benches.
In Airpes we design and provide also load cells converters that help read and measure with precision the electrical analog signal, convert it to a digital weight value and output and send the information via CANopen (CANopen is a universal high level communications protocol and software widely used at industrial level). The compression load cells sensors work with single shear or multi (double) shear and are used, as their name suggests, for the measurement of force in the direction of compression of the cell (a single direction). This direction is the direction of thrust or crushing of the sensor.
The traction load cells (also called tension load cells) are used as their name suggests, to measure the force in the direction of traction or tension of the cell. This is the direction of pull on the central axis of the sensor. Traction load cells are high capacity devices that will perform a precise reading of tractions up to 50 tons in force.
The flexion load cells (also known as bending beam load cells) are designed for the measurement at the opposite end of the anchorage, since they consist of a small metal beam or section. At one end there are mounting holes for anchoring the cell and at the other end of the accessory holes to hang the weight or support the load to be measured.
